Our family dog is a complex creature.
I only know a few things for certain about this animal; we love her, she loves us, and it hasn’t been all roses lately. This being the dog who is praised by non-dog lovers as, “the best dog ever.” You see, she isn’t your typical lick your face, knock things over with tail, vie for your attention type of dog. Sometimes you barely know she is there and non-dog people love this.
For me, she is phenomenal with kids, loves our entire family unconditionally, can snag a frisbee out of thin air with style, and is typically very low maintenance. She was our “first born” and has been at the top of the mountain for a long time.
Lately though she has been slipping, and my fear is that this is our fault.

Many dogs really are the ‘first born’. Too bad they can’t help drive around their younger siblings 😉 Well rounded dogs really are the best!
